What is a Business Development Manager?
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be the resident expert for the Penberthy Brand of high-quality level instrumentation in level and flow indication products for pumping, mixing, or heating liquids and gases. The BDM will work under the direction of the Commercial Manager, Penberthy, to support the North American Sales Network and create a vision & strategy to grow in this market, driving increased sales & profitability. The BDM will help elevate our Sales, Marketing & Engineering teams to be trusted advisors in the industry.
This role will demonstrate our experience, technical expertise and dedication to partner with customers to solve their most challenging liquid level gage glass, magnetic level gage, liquid level switch and transmitter needs in the commercial & industrial boiler room.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree preferably in a technical field, or have equivalent work experience. Ten or more years in instrumentation sales or related field. They will ideally reside in the Gulf Coast (Houston, Beaumont, Pt. Arthur, Baton Rouge) or near headquarters in Strongsville, OH.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Research and develop new business opportunities, including market, product and application expansions.
2. Develop and execute strategic plans to support corporate growth initiatives through acquisition of new customer segments.
3. Identify growth accounts and implement coordinated plans to grow our share within the target set of accounts.
4. Help sales team/channel achieve ‘trusted advisor’ relationships
5. Coordinate project pursuit of large, cross-territory capital expansion projects.
6. Work closely with colleagues to influence owner specifications and approved manufacturer’s lists.
7. Monitor industry economic conditions, trends and competitive landscape.
8. Provide input for annual strategic plans.
9. Guide broad processes and policies for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution.
10. Provides timely feedback to management on effectiveness of growth programs.
11. Creates and conducts proposal presentations to customers, representatives, and internal staff.
12. Must be highly self-driven to work independently with minimal supervision based on broad objectives.
13. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
14. Stays informed on all products and services of interest to current and potential customers.
15. Monitors competitive activity amongst manufacturers, key representatives, products and technology with understanding of strengths and weaknesses of each.
16. Understand competitive capability and provide feedback to sales and marketing for collateral publications and product development roadmaps.
17. Interact and communicate with all levels of employees within the Company, customers and peers effectively.
18. Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules of the Company.
19. Maintain quality assurance policy consistent with ISO standards.
20. Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
21. Punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
22. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree required preferably in a technical field, or equivalent work experience. MBA preferred. Able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in Standard English. Ten or more years in instrumentation sales or related field. Past experience in a similar sales or business development role preferred. Experience with instrumentation products in markets related to oil, gas, power, petrochemical or similar markets.
The successful candidate shall be an energetic, effective, self-starter with strong verbal and written communication skills who is able to excel in a fast-paced sales environment. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Technologically advanced and oriented with strong computer skills. Strong communication and presentation skills. Customer service oriented and organized. Must have a natural ability to engage in business relationships with individuals and groups and a desire to improve these talents. Successful passing of a routine motor vehicle and credit report.
Physical and Technical Environment
Minimal lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office environment. Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area, walking, climbing stairs, utilizing elevator. Must respond to changing requirements and working conditions. Travel required, exposure to varying environments and cultures at the job site, changing deadlines, strict time constraints.
